We at Old School Cookbook love reading old recipes and we also love trying to decipher what modern dishes they would be most equivalent to. That’s why we call ourselves recipe translators.
Translating historical recipes isn’t an exact science and we do a lot of guessing, but that’s part of the fun. You can see our take, but it’s really your take on the recipes that counts. Do they remind you of something your mom made? Or your grandma? Or great-grandma? Maybe they don’t remind you of anything but science class, but they’re still an amazing peek into the lives of our English speaking ancestors.
